About Catherine
Catherine Wright is a specialist teacher and assessor with over twenty years of experience supporting children and adults with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties.

Her journey began when her daughter, Hannah, was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of eight. Determined to help, Catherine trained as a dyslexia tutor and assessor. During her studies, she discovered that she is also dyslexic, something she now sees as a real strength. It helps her understand her students’ experiences and connect with them in a genuine, empathetic way.

Experience
Catherine has worked across education in both teaching and leadership roles. She began by supporting college students who needed extra help to reach their potential, and went on to become Principal of Dyslexia Action in Lincoln, leading a team of dedicated teachers while continuing to teach and assess learners of all ages.

She later became Regional Manager for Dyslexia Action, supporting schools and staff across the region. After several years she then founded Dyslexia Network in 2017 and has been working with students, schools and parents ever since across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
Eight years on and four grandchildren later Catherine still enjoys teaching students from the age of 6 through to 16 and their GCSEs in English. I also enjoy teaching mathematics up to the age of 14 when I pass students to colleagues that specialise in the GCSE curriculum.

What Inspires Catherine
"I love those moments when a student suddenly realises they can do it. Seeing their face light up and their confidence grow is the best part of my job."

About Helen
Helen Hawkes is a qualified specialist teacher and assessor with more than 25 years of experience in education. Her passion for helping children with dyslexia began during her many years as a primary school teacher, where she saw first-hand how some pupils struggled with reading and spelling despite their best efforts.

Determined to understand how to support them, Helen completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy and began working part-time with Dyslexia Action in Leeds, helping children in mainstream schools develop confidence and effective learning strategies.

Experience
Through her work in Leeds, Helen recognised how important it is to identify dyslexia early so that students can receive the right support. This inspired her to qualify as an assessor by completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs (Dyslexia).

Helen continues to teach part-time in a local primary school while also tutoring and assessing students with the Dyslexia Network in Harrogate. She particularly values the chance to work one-to-one with students, getting to know their individual strengths, needs and personalities.

What Inspires Helen
"I love building strong relationships with my students and helping them discover how they learn best. Seeing their confidence grow as they start to succeed is incredibly rewarding."
